Really Mini Avon Haul

I haven't ordered anything from Avon in an absolute age so I thought I would treat myself to a few items from a catalogue I came across. I needed a couple of nice lipsticks to try on my holiday so decided the ones below.

Above is an Ultra Colour lipstick in the shade Carnation. I love this colour its nice and light and could be perfect for everyday, also just searching it it feels really soft and moisturising.

Below is from a range I've not tried called Extra Lasting, this is in the shade Totally Twig. It is a little darker than I anticipated but never the less a really nice autumnal colour.

I always love trying out new foundations so couldn't resist this. I have the shade nude and it looks a good colour match but I wont know for sure until I put it through its paces. It claims to be long lasting so my first test of that will be a nice little 9 hour work shift. I'm also interested to see how well it controls oil, if at all.

Last but not least is a true colour ey5eshadow quad in purple haze. I'm sure I had one quite similar to this a while back so at first I weren't going to buy this but then thought what the hell why not. The colours are well pigmented and I'm looking forward to doing a complete step by step look.

Now that's it for all of those, there shall be some reviews up soon once I've got some wear out of these so look out for those. These can all be found on your countries Avon site or from your local Avon representative.

Purple ELF Look

Products used in order;

Mineral Mist
Mineral Face Primer
Tone Correct Concealer - Light Beige
High Definition Powder
Blush - D28
Brightening Eyeliner - Plum
Single Eyeshadow - Amethyst
Lash Extend Mascara
Matte Lip Colour - Praline
Make-up Mist and Set

I started with a fine spray of mineral mist all over my face, this has so many ingredients that are great for your skin such as witch hazel, chamomile and vitamin b to name a few. This mist dries so quickly and is well absorbed so no residue. I then took 2 pumps of primer and applied this all over my face. I've never been a religious primer user so have nothing to compare this to but it is a nice clear, silky gel that is lightweight and doesn't slip and slide everywhere. My foundation went on well on it too, I don't own any ELF foundations as of yet so I used my regular Almay clear complexion foundation in 120 Ivory. The tone correct concealer I must admit isn't my favourite but that may be because it is a little dark for me but I do love the citrus smell it has, if only all concealer smelt that good!

I love this plum eyeliner shade and really need to get some more of these, though I do have a black one. I find it really creamy without sliding everywhere and the longevity is great. The colour is also highly pigmented so I hope the other shades are too. I picked a single eye shadow in amethyst just to apply to the bottom lash line as I prefer to use a shadow rather than a liner. There was a bit of fallout from this but not a vast amount, the pigment is great in this and I must get some more but then again I've always found ELF eyeshadows great pigment wise.

Now I mentioned this mascara in my top 5 post and I do love it. Having a curved brush means you can get right to the base of the lashes ensuring a even coat. I've also never had a clumping problem with this mascara as it separates well. I really need to order a spare one for when this runs out.

This blush I'm not entirely sure on the shade as the only label on it is #D28. I love this shade and it's going to be a great autumn colour. Its quite pigmented so a little goes a long way but it is also buildable for a strong look if that's what you like. Its soft and not at all chalky unlike other blushes I've used before.

The HD Powder reminds me a little of baby powder it is extremely light and silky and if like me you take the tray out it makes a right royal mess. I suffer from quite oily skin so this probably isn't the best powder for me but that said I do like it and find it evens out my skin in photos. The lip colour is definitely not my favourite I think it is too dark for me. I much prefer a coral or light pink but that said I'm impressed with the product itself. I didn't find it too drying and it did last a fair while, much longer than expected. Maybe in a different colour I would be more impressed as the concept is great but I picked a bad colour for me. I topped this all of with the mist and set spray which I am indifferent about. I've not used one before so I'm not too sure what its supposed to do or whether it achieved it. Maybe with longer use I may crack this.

So that is all for my ELF look in purple. I don't own a huge amount of items from them but what I do have I'm impressed with so look out for future reviews from a certain other item I have.

Top 5 Mascaras.

I know it's been a while since my last post but i have been so busy working i haven't had time to blog so I thought I'd kick things off with my top 5 mascaras.

In no particular order;

Maybelline The Falsies Express Waterproof
Maybelline Mega Plush Volum' Express
Maybelline Rocket Volume Express
Elf Lash Extending Mascara
L'Oréal Volume Million Lashes Excess

Now what seems to be the common denominator here is a plastic applicator, with the very slight exception of the Mega Plush Volum' mascara which although it looks like a regular bristle brush is actually made from plastic bristles. I love love love plastic brushes I feel that there Is more separation in the lashes and it gives a more defined look. I think my entire collection, bar maybe one or two are all plastic applicatiors. Im yet to find a regular brush that has wowed me enough to change my view.

All 5 are affordable and are great for someone like me who likes good quality on a budget. I have only recently rediscovered my Maybelline mega plush mascara after finding it in one of my many bags, i will admit now i forgot completely that I had it. If i had to pick a favourite of the 5 i would be seriously torn between Maybelline Rocket Volume and Elf lash extending mascara, both of which will be coming on holiday with me again next month as they last well in heat (despite not being waterproof) and can last from morning to night without reapplication. Volume million lashes is also a great mascara and the only one I own from L'Oréal at the moment, the only thing that keeps me from using it as often as the rest it the smell. I cant describe what it is but its not wholly pleasant but maybe I just got a bad one. I first picked up the Maybelline Falsies mascara after watching one of Tanya Burr's many videos where she raves about it. I have to admit i do love it and the one i have is waterproof which i hadnt even noticed as it comes off well with my Bioderma micellar water and i've never had any trouble with it. I will definitely love to try some more mascaras so if any of you have any recommendations I'd love to hear them, especially if it will change my view on regular applicators.
